A new year brings an innate sense of a new cycle - a fresh start. Creating a Vision Board can help organize your Resolutions in a thoughtful and lasting way. By placing your Board where you will see it often, it will be effective in keeping those goals at the forefront of your thoughts and actions.
Materials Needed:
Posterboard
Glue / Glue Sticks
Scissors
Recycled Magazines, Newspapers, etc.
Tips:
Your Board can include anything your heart desires! Avoid following "rules" or sizing-down your ambitions - you are the architect of your dream! (This is especially important to remember when working with children).
There is no wrong way to manifest your intentions! You may find yourself with a specific list of goals you aim to achieve or you may choose to use the first image, words or phrases that jump out at you while reading through your resources. For more specific goals, you may search online and print our exactly what you envision.
Practice non-attachment and feel good about your choices. Place your Vision Board somewhere that makes you happy when you see it. It's purpose is to serve as a reminder of goals that were set on the day that you created it. Remember, our goals and interests often shift as we encounter new experiences so do not get discouraged if all of your goals are not met.
Vision Boards can be created for any important life event! My daughter, at age 5, created a beautiful board fueled by her ambition to one day travel to Brazil. We used to the Board to cover topics such as music, food, folklore, soccer and the Amazon. It proved to be a fun and captivating way to learn!
I highly recommend this activity for children of all ages! Vision boarding is a great way to introduce goal-setting, promote a confident and optimistic view of the future and it serves as a daily reminder of potential short or long term achievements. The time spent crafting and talking about personal ambitions serves as a wonderful way to bond and also opens productive communication with a friend, student, child or peer.
